Womens Day

International Women's Day, officially the United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace, also known as March 8th Women's Day or March 8th, is a festival established to celebrate the important contributions and great achievements of women in economic, political and social fields, observed annually on March 8th. International Women's Day is a glorious festival of unity and struggle for working women worldwide, originating from the labor movement in North America and Europe in the early 20th century. On this day, women around the world celebrate their festival in various forms, expressing concern and pursuit of gender equality and women's rights. In China, Women's Day is a legal half-day holiday, and women can enjoy half a day off. Various regions hold celebration activities, honoring outstanding women, promoting women's rights, and advocating for gender equality. Women's Day embodies respect and care for women and is an important festival for promoting gender equality and the comprehensive development of women.

International Women's Day originated from the labor movement in North America and Europe in the early 20th century. On March 8, 1909, female workers in Chicago, USA, held demonstrations demanding equal rights for men and women, which is regarded as the origin of International Women's Day. In August 1910, at the Second International Socialist Women's Conference held in Copenhagen, Denmark, Clara Zetkin, a German socialist revolutionary and women's movement leader, proposed making March 8th of each year the unified day for working women worldwide, which received unanimous support from the delegates. From 1911 onwards, women in many European countries held rallies on this day, demanding suffrage, work rights, vocational training rights, and non-discriminatory treatment. During World War I, women in European countries held massive anti-war and peace movements. On March 8, 1917 (February 23 in the Russian calendar), female workers in Petrograd, Russia, held strikes and demonstrations, demanding "bread and peace," which opened the prelude to the Russian February Revolution and eventually led to the collapse of the Tsarist autocracy. To commemorate this revolutionary act by Russian women, the Second International Communist Women's Conference held in Moscow in 1921 officially designated March 8th as International Working Women's Day. Chinese women's movement pioneers He Xiangning, Deng Yingchao and others held the first celebration of "March 8th" Women's Day in China in Guangzhou in 1924. In December 1949, the Government Administration Council of the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China stipulated March 8th as Women's Day, with women having half a day off.
