Valentines Day

Valentine's Day, also known as Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is one of the traditional Western holidays originating from Christianity, celebrated on February 14th of the Gregorian calendar each year. This festival was initially established to commemorate the Christian martyr Saint Valentine, but over time, it has gradually evolved into a day for couples to express love and celebrate romantic relationships. On this day, lovers exchange gifts such as roses, chocolates, and greeting cards to express their love and commitment to each other. Valentine's Day has also become a popular day for marriage proposals and confessions of love. Although Valentine's Day originated in the West, it has now spread worldwide, including to China, becoming an important festival for young people to celebrate love.

The origin of Valentine's Day is related to the Roman Empire in the 3rd century AD. At that time, Roman Emperor Claudius II believed that unmarried men were more suitable for military service, so he issued a decree prohibiting young people from getting married. However, a Christian priest named Valentine defied the ban and secretly performed marriage ceremonies for young couples. After this was discovered, Valentine was arrested and imprisoned, and executed on February 14th, 270 AD. Legend has it that Valentine fell in love with the jailer's blind daughter while in prison. Before his execution, he wrote her a love letter signed 'From your Valentine,' a phrase that later became the classic expression on Valentine's Day cards. To commemorate Valentine's brave act of giving his life for love, later generations designated February 14th as Valentine's Day. Another theory suggests that Valentine's Day is related to the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, celebrated on February 15th as a festival to pray for fertility and love. After Christianity rose to prominence, the church designated February 14th as Saint Valentine's Day to replace the pagan festival. Regardless of its origin, Valentine's Day carries people's aspirations and blessings for love.
