立冬是二十四节气中的第十九个节气，也是冬季的第一个节气。每年公历11月7日或8日，当太阳到达黄经225°时为立冬。"立"是建始之意，"冬"为"终"，意为万物收藏。立冬表示冬季正式来临，生气开始闭蓄，万物进入休养、收藏状态。立冬标志着由秋季少雨干燥的气候向阴雨寒冻的冬季气候过渡。在传统文化中，立冬是"四时八节"之一，古代民间习惯以立冬为冬季之始。虽然从气候学上来讲，我国幅员辽阔，除全年无冬的华南沿海和长冬无夏的青藏高原外，各地的冬季并不都是同时开始的，但立冬作为冬季的起点，具有重要的文化和农业意义。

Start of Winter (Lidong) is the 19th solar term among the 24 solar terms and the first solar term of winter, occurring around November 7-8 when the sun reaches 225 degrees celestial longitude. "Li" means "beginning," while "dong" (winter) derives from "zhong" meaning "end," signifying all things entering storage. Start of Winter marks winter's official arrival, with life energy beginning to close and store as all things enter a state of rest and conservation. This solar term signifies the transition from autumn's dry climate to winter's cold and potentially snowy conditions. In traditional culture, Start of Winter is one of the "Four Establishments and Eight Festivals," with ancient folk customs considering it winter's beginning. Although climatologically, China's vast territory means winter doesn't begin simultaneously everywhere (except year-round summer in coastal South China and year-round winter on the Tibetan Plateau), Start of Winter holds significant cultural and agricultural importance as winter's starting point.
