Guyu Solar Term

Grain Rain (Guyu) is the sixth solar term among the 24 solar terms and the last solar term of spring, usually occurring around April 19-21 when the sun reaches 30 degrees celestial longitude. The name "Grain Rain" originates from the ancient agricultural concept of "rain nourishes hundred grains," reflecting the importance of precipitation during this period for crop growth. The "Collected Explanations of the Seventy-Two Pentads" states: "In mid-third month, after Rain Water, earth's essence pulses, now rain moistens grains in water. Grains are sown during this time, from above downward." This means that rainfall significantly increases during Grain Rain, newly transplanted seedlings and newly planted crops most need rain's nourishment - truly embodying "spring rain precious as oil," making Grain Rain rainfall crucial for agricultural production. After Grain Rain, temperatures continue rising, precipitation further increases, spring nears its end, and summer's footsteps grow closer, marking the arrival of late spring and the transition toward early summer.
