Hanlu Solar Term
Cold Dew (Hanlu) is the 17th solar term among the 24 solar terms and the fifth solar term of autumn, occurring around October 8-9 when the sun reaches 195 degrees celestial longitude. "Cold Dew" means temperatures are lower than during White Dew, ground dew is colder, about to condense into frost. During Cold Dew, vast regions from Nanling mountains northward have all entered autumn, while Northeast and Northwest regions have entered or are about to enter winter. The "Collected Explanations of the Seventy-Two Pentads" states: "Ninth month node, dew qi becomes cold, about to condense." Cold Dew is the transition from cool to cold climate. At night, looking up at the starry sky, you will discover the stars have changed seasons - "Great Fire Star" (Antares in Scorpio) representing midsummer has set in the west. We can faintly hear winter's footsteps approaching.
